Reflecting back

Reflecting back on the wedding day

When I first moved up here from Southwest Florida, it didn’t take long for me to hear about the historic and well-known Omni William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. Then one day as I was sightseeing in downtown to become familiar with my new home, I decided to step inside and take a look for myself. I must have looked ridiculous standing there in awe because more than three people walked by me with a look on their face. The foyer or lobby of this hotel is nothing short of grandiose. My heart fluttered and I instantly got excited at a chance to be able to photograph in this room – specifically. I soon had the chance, shortly after that visit, with Matt and LuAnne’s wedding!  I also had just booked another wedding for this same venue for Matt and Heather’s wedding the following year!
What a perfect day to get married on. Blue skies and great weather, the portraits on Mt. Washington were going to be stunning! Take a look at the size of her wedding party on the overlook on Mt. Washington! 16 wedding attendants!  They all were amazing to work with though and we were able to get portraits done quickly and efficiently so that everyone could get back to the hotel for the cocktail hour and reception.

Interview with the bride

Bride looks back on her wedding day

Maria: How long was your engagement? Do you feel that was enough time to plan all of the details of your wedding day?

LuAnn: We were engaged for about a year and a half. It was more than enough time to plan everything which made the planning process less stressful.

Maria: Why did you choose the Omni William Penn as your venue for reception?

LuAnn: I have always loved the grand ballroom as a wedding venue. I just couldn’t resist the balcony and chandeliers!

Maria: What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?

LuAnn: My favorite moment was when we took a group photo with all of our guests out on the dance floor and then went right into the dance party. It was the perfect way to get everyone up and moving!

Getting Ready

Getting Ready for the bride was at the Omni William Penn Hotel. Her suite was huge and the library or living room within the suite was clear enough for us to use for the staging of the dress! This avid reader was super excited to have the opportunity to incorporate it!

Ceremony

St. Mary of the Mount is always that church I love to see at night from downtown Pittsburgh. It is the only building on that block that just beams off of Mt. Washington for all of Pittsburgh to see. I love the location of this church along with the fact that it is conveniently located right across the street from one of the overlooks. Perfect!

Wedding Portraits

It was definitely nice to just walk across the street from St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church for portraits. It wasn’t nice that someone attending mass after the wedding ceremony illegally blocked my car in. The limo driver even tried to work magic to maneuver my car out and he couldn’t so I ended up having to hitch a ride with my second photographer, Marnie. It worked out though because there was a Pirates game at PNC Park and Marnie served as driver so that I could just hop out and jet over to North Shore to take some photos of the wedding party and bride and groom. Lucky for us – a gentleman who owned a huge boat allowed the wedding party to take a photo on it!

Reception

I think I stood in this room for a good five minutes just taking all of it in. Such a lavish room with gold foiled trim and balcony – just breathtaking! The bride and groom entered both on the second floor balcony for their grand entrance followed by a second entrance down the length of the room from the stairs.
