Reflecting back

Reflecting back on the wedding day

Bob and Julie had a rustic themed wedding held at the Shady Elms Farm. This wedding venue provides the vintage obsessed bride with beautiful florals, antiques, and rustic charm. Another white tent event, which I love, and plenty of opportunities for portraits as well! What was especially nice about this location was the freedom factor. You were not chained to the reception area, you could walk around the property, swing on the swingset that hung from a huge old tree, or have a cigar at the small tables located near the open indoor/outdoor barn.

Getting Ready

The bride and groom had separate locations when it was time for getting ready. Bob chose a familiar place where he could watch the game and Julie chose to be at Shady Elms Farm with the bridesmaids and family.

The First Look

The bride decided to do two different ‘first looks’. One with her bridesmaids and the other with her father. I almost lost it when I saw her parents have a moment behind her as she laughed and joked with her bridesmaids.

Photographing the details for this wedding was probably one of my favorites. The Shady Elms Farm was not exaggerating when they claimed they had various decorations already in place at the venue. I felt like every nook and cranny was filled with some kind of arrangement or antique item. There was so many amazing things to look at, that I started to count up the costs it would have taken to do something similar if the venue didn’t provide it – let’s just say there was definitely value in choosing this wedding venue!

Wedding Portraits

We had some laughs trying to convince the wedding party to stand on the dock for portraits. A few of them were convinced we were going to have a YouTube moment due to the amount of weight applied to the rickety old wooden structure. Thanks to the bride’s verbal push – we managed to get the shot!

This wedding venue is set up with weddings in mind. Almost makes you wonder if that was the case when building it! (I kid – I know it wasn’t) But seriously, how can you go wrong with having two indoor/outdoor structures plus a white tented reception open for guests to roam and have some fun?? I am such a free spirit at heart and the idea of having the ability to just freely and leisurely roam around between the adjacent buildings throughout your reception is ideal. There were even guests who went for a short walk around the property after dinner, while enjoying a cigar. Very intimate and family oriented. Love it!
