Reflecting back

Reflecting back on the wedding day

When I was hired to photograph Melinda and Jason’s wedding at PNC Park here in Pittsburgh, I was counting the days down on my calendar. I had never shot at PNC Park before and Melinda and Jason seemed to be an amazing couple with similar personalities to my own. The day arrived and it was absolutely perfect. It rained a little in the first half of the day but cleared up by the time we started to head out for the First Look. When it was time to do family portraits, Melinda wanted something different. She did not want the stuffy formals at the altar which is absolutely fine but not something she cared for. We in turn decided to utilize the fan seating and staggered family accordingly.
Ceremony went perfect and I shed a tear or two when they had their son join them on the stage for the uniting of the pieces for the family tree. After ceremony, everyone headed into the reception room where uplighting adorned every wall in the place. The entire reception decor was Pittsburgh themed with an emphasis on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Appetizers resembled fan fare food and it didn’t take long for everyone to make their way onto the dance floor for the remaining part of the night. We ended our coverage with an evening portrait of the newly joined family on the balcony of PNC Park overlooking the city. I loved this venue so much that it is another one where I will discount my services in order to be able to visit once again.

Interview with the bride

Bride looks back on her wedding day

Maria: Why did you choose your venue?

Melinda: My husband is from Homestead pa and Pittsburgh is our favorite place in the world, we knew we wanted to get married in Pennsylvania and show our California family the place we hold so dear. Since we are huge sports fans, (Steelers and Pirates of course) we knew that PNC Park would be perfect to incorporate this aspect of our lives into our day. Once we met with Jaclene at PNC Park, we knew it was perfect for us to say our vows on top of the dugout and celebrate from behind home plate!

Maria: Did you face any obstacles while planning your wedding? If so, please explain.

Melinda: It was difficult to plan a wedding in Pittsburgh from So Cal but my vendors proved to be absolutely amazing. everyone involved really went out of their way to make our day exceptional.

Maria: Did everything go as planned on your wedding day?

Melinda: Yes, everything was absolutely perfect!

Maria: Looking back on your wedding day, is there anything you would have done differently?

Melinda: I would have purchased an additional hour of time with my photographer to capture our after wedding events, just for fun!

Maria: Your favorite wedding day moment?

Melinda: Our first look at the Mazeroski statue, all my butterflies disappeared the second I looked into Jason’s eyes, and my first look with our son Makio, his reaction is something I will never forget.

Maria: Any advice or tips to give to a Bride-To-Be?

Melinda: Enjoy and savor every minute, it goes by so quickly!

Portraits were done in the fan seating and surrounding area of the baseball field as well as the 6th street bridge.

Ceremony was held by the dugout on the baseball field. It had rained earlier but the staff at PNC Park were quick and efficient in drying all of the seats off for guests.
