Interview with the bride:
Maria: What is the story of you and Paul? How did you meet and how did he propose?
Megan: Paul and I met in college at Florida State University (Go Noles!). He will tell you we first caught each other’s eye at a Super Bowl Party our friends were hosting however, we didn’t officially speak and get to know one another until a cruise we took over Spring Break in 2009. Two of my girlfriends organized a cruise for 8 of us and Paul and I were the only ones that came without “dates.” So at first we were kind of forced to do every excursion together, sit next to each other at dinners, and then an attraction grew to an amazing connection. Ironically, almost 5 years later we are the only 2 that are still together!
Paul proposed during a trip to Hawks Cay. I surprised him by taking him to the Keys for his birthday and he surprised me by proposing! He had purchased the ring several months before and had asked both of my dads(!) already for my hand in marriage. The resort had set up a gazebo decked out in roses, candles, and Paul worked with them to really make the evening special!
Maria: What obstacles did you face while planning your wedding? And if any, how did you overcome it?
Megan: I think the biggest obstacle I faced was trying not to get caught up in every detail, and really just enjoy every moment. Every meeting, the shower(s), bachelorette party can all be so overwhelmingly exciting its easy to get caught up in every little thing that you forget to just sit back and take it all in. In the end it is all perfect no matter what – the hiccups along the way become the things you laugh about afterwards!
Maria: Any obstacles on your wedding day?
Megan: I can honestly say by the time I got to the wedding day, I was ready for it all and didn’t experience any obstacles! It was perfect in every way, sure my grandparents had no clue where to sit, my nephew had to walk down the aisle with a bottle, and it all just went by way too fast, but all in all I couldn’t have asked for anything more!
Maria: What gave you inspiration for the theme or colors?
Megan: My favorite color has always been pink, and for the first few months of planning that was it. Pink bridesmaids dresses, pink peonies, but something just didn’t feel right. I almost felt as if I was planning the wedding I had envisioned at age 5. I knew I wanted something a bit “out of the box.” I had always envisioned a very magical, elegant, old-fashioned style wedding. In January I had found out that Emerald was the color of the year which I loved, especially for my bridesmaids – I really wanted them to stand out! Then I saw The Great Gatsby and I was complete. I grabbed a lot of inspiration from that movie! My final colors ended up being primarily Black, White, and Gold with some Emerald accents.
Maria: Why did you choose the Hyatt for your wedding day?
Megan: It was everything we wanted in a venue and more! We had family and friends traveling from New York, St Louis, and South Florida so we wanted some place where they could stay, relax, and enjoy all weekend without having to travel too much. Plus with my parent’s friends (as well as ours!) we definitely wanted to ensure no one was driving home 😉 Our coordinator, Lindsey (at the Hyatt!) was just amazing. Very relaxed, on top of everything, and assured me that everything would be taken care of. She made us feel like kings and queens!
Maria: Any advice to future brides who are planning their own wedding?
Megan: It is a game of give and take, working with budgets, family members, and in the end wanting the day to be what you’ve always envisioned. The best advice I could give, is over prepare and then go with the flow. The more time you spend planning, mapping out, and executing the better it will be, but also don’t lose sight of what the day truly symbolizes. Know that no matter what happens it will all be perfect, because in the end it is all about the bride, groom and their happily ever after!
